Do You Qualify for Free Government Cell Phones in Mississippi?

There are free government cell phones in Mississippi for residents who qualify through the Lifeline program.  The intention of the program is to help low-income families within the state of Mississippi receive a free or discounted cell phone.  The program provides a pay-as-you-go plan where minutes are added to the phone monthly.

To qualify for a Free Government Cell Phone in Mississippi, you must meet the state’s income requirements. Generally, if you qualify for other state programs such as:

  • Medicaid
  • SNAP (previously called the Food Stamp program)
  • TANF
  • SSI
  • FPHA
  •  NSL (National School Lunch program)
  • Federal Public Housing Assistance (Section 8)
  • Total household income at or below 135% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines

In the state of Mississippi, there are three programs available for people to participate in including Assurance, ReachOut Wireless or Safelink Wireless.  Assurance is offered through Virgin Mobile and provides a free phone, and 250 minutes per month.  RecahOut Wireless also provides a free phone and a 50, 125 or 250 minute pack per month.  Safelink Wireless is provided through Tracfone and come with 68, 125 or 250 minutes.  Additional minutes can be purchased and added to all three of these plans.

The free government cell phone in Mississippi program allows people to have phone service who may otherwise not be able to afford these services.  Whether using the phone to seek employment, make appointments or for personal reasons, you will find that it is very beneficial to have one.  The program is simple to apply for and requires no credit checks or contract to sign.
