Qualified residents are now eligible to receive free government cell phones in Oklahoma.
Supported by cell phone firm Safelink Wireless, it has launched The Lifeline program for Free Government Cell Phones in Oklahoma that is provided for unemployed and low-income families across the state. The effort will try to bring down the high levels of unemployment in the state by linking Americans with potential employers, friends, family and the state. Oklahoma has experienced the effects of unemployment as industry and government organs cut down employment to cope with the ongoing global economic downturn. This has led to job losses and a drop in family incomes, causing extreme pain on the residents of the state.
The Lifeline program aims at providing a channel that ordinary citizens can use to reach the government itself, friends, family, emergency services and most importantly, potential employers. In distributing free cell phones to the underprivileged and unemployed, the government will enable them to seek job opportunities and improve their employment prospects. Those who qualify to participate in the program will get a free mobile phone, free talk-time every month, text messages at the rate of a minute per message and replenished talk-time top-ups at the end of every month.
